About Michael Dwyer

Attorney Michael T. Dwyer has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1981. Prior to entering the private practice of law, Attorney Dwyer did internships in the Middlesex County Probation Department and in the Middlesex Probate and Family Service Department. Upon graduation with honors from law school, Attorney Dwyer was hired as a Middlesex Assistant District Attorney, serving under two different Middlesex District Attorneys. While in the District Attorney's Office, Attorney Dwyer was responsible for the prosecution of major crimes throughout the county and was ultimately placed in charge of running a major division within the office.

With more than 30 years of experience,

He has tried cases before dozens of state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and arbitration panels. As well as having represented thousands of satisfied clients over the years, Attorney Dwyer represents many small to medium-sized businesses and several credit unions as Outside Legal Counsel.

For more than 10 years he has been an instructor in the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Program. He has testified as an expert witness for the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.

EXPERT WITNESS

Testified on behalf of the Board of Bar Overseers for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (In the Matter of Fordham, re: ethics violations)

INSTRUCTOR

Legal Instructor to licensed contractors and Building Contractor Supervisors on topics such as Home Improvement Contractor Statute; Business Practices; and various other incidental topics.

Served as an instructor to second and third year law students in all aspects of trial preparation, advocacy and presentation, prior to the participation in the school’s legal clinic, for over10 years.

PRO BONO PROJECTS

Awarded the 2017 “Excellence in the Law” for Pro Bono work in the community by Lawyers Weekly

Awarded the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award through the CVC for my service to the Somerville Council on Aging Legal Clinic

I developed a monthly free legal clinic for the elderly citizens of Somerville. I meet clients on the second Tuesday of every month. I present a series of programs during the year which are open to the public on various legal topics (i.e. elder abuse, scams, and protecting assets). Awarded Certificate of Appreciation for my annual volunteer work and public assistance.

Former Member of the Policy Council of the Somerville Early Head Start Program.

Formerly, I served as the Chairman of the Board for Somerville Mental Health Association which eventually merged with Riverside Community Care in 2012.
